Pregnancy Essentials You’ll Actually Use

The idea of pregnancy can be a beautiful thing as you’re creating life and patiently waiting to meet your little one. However, reality can be a bit different with things like morning sickness, swollen ankles, clothes that don’t fit like they should, and even medical conditions like gestational diabetes. I’ve compiled a list of my favorite pregnancy go-to’s that I actually used during my pregnancy from someone who had severe morning sickness during my first trimester.

Clothing

Clothes were the first thing I needed since I started bloating and showing fairly quick. I wanted just a few essential pieces that I could mix and match. For work attire, I mainly stuck with dresses and maternity jeans. At home, you could find me in sweatpants, leggings, or bike shorts.

These leggings were some of my go to. They’re super soft, stretchy and high waisted. Easy to pair with just about anything.

These biker shorts were also a nice alternative on those hot days since I was pregnant during the summer months.

These oversized T-shirts were some of my favorites since I did not want anything tight fitting. At home I was often wearing these with the biker shorts.

For working, a good pair of jeans was a necessity. Getting these in a couple different shades definitely helps put together some work outfits.

These overalls were a nice option to wear to weekend events and outings. Lightweight, breathable, but cute!

In my third trimester, the swelling got BAD. Anytime I got on my feet, they swelled like crazy. These compression socks helped so much with swelling and are budget-friendly.

Health

During my pregnancy, I struggled with morning sickness BAD. There wasn’t much I could except wait until my second trimester rolled around when it cleared up. However, these items helped relieve some of my symptoms enough to function somewhat throughout the day.

During my first trimester I had terrible morning sickness. These lozenges were perfect at providing temporary relief and letting me feel human again.

Another morning sickness must-have was Vitamin B-6. These didn’t provide a stop to the morning sickness but reduced my symptoms.

With morning sickness, I would often get headaches after throwing up. The stomach pain and headaches made my first trimester miserable but using this migraine relief cap would immediately stop the headaches.

For some reason, I got super congested in my third trimester. I was having so much trouble breathing no matter how much I blew my nose or took allergy medication. Nose strips however, helped open up nose enough to a point of being able to comfortably breathe again.

Miscellaneous

Below were some other items I found extremely useful during pregnancy and would recommend to anyone who is newly pregnant.

This pregnancy pillow was my first pregnancy purchase. I cannot stress how comfortable it was and how fluffy it stayed! I used this thing every night and was able to get good sleep with it.

As I got closer to my due date, my hips became extremely uncomfortable. Bouncing on a yoga ball and doing some yoga ball stretches helped loosen my hips and provide immediate relief.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get the voluminous shining pregnancy hair. My hair started thinning during pregnancy as compared to most people who begin to notice this postpartum. My usual salon quality shampoo and conditioner was not helping whatsoever but this budget-friendly shampoo and conditioner greatly reduced how much hair I was shedding and made my hair feel soft and strong.

Overall, these items were my must-haves. I don’t think I could’ve gone without them. Keep in mind though that every body goes through pregnancy differently and what works for me may not work for you!
